Semera/Mekelle to Erta Ale Volcano Summit (613m)

Meet your 4WD expedition convoy and guide at Semera or Mekelle Airport. Drive through the scorched Afar desert basin, crossing hardened lava fields to reach Dodom base camp. After an early dinner and sunset rest, begin the 3-hour night trek up Erta Ale volcano (613m) under the stars. Reach the caldera rim to observe the mesmerizing, churning molten basalt lava lake glowing in the darkness. Sleep in open-air stone shelters on the crater rim.
